WHY WE HAVE CHRISTMAS
|
Here in this church you can see a picture of a man who came to Earth 2000 years ago and walked among us and tried to teach us how to get along with each other.
His name probably was Joshua ben Joseph, but today we call him Jesus Christ. He was very kind and loving and could heal people, walk on water and perform many other miracles. |

|
What he tried to teach us is this:
Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. | |
|
Well, you'd think that would be very easy to do. But Earth humans haven't learned this lesson very well to this day. Even though all over the planet there are many people who try to treat others nicely and with respect, some people still try to control others.
It's these controllers who have caused all the wars we've had. In fact, they're still fighting each other. Jesus wouldn't like it if he ever came back. |
Why did he leave? Well, some of the ruling people back then didn't like Jesus, because they thought he wanted to set himself up as King of All the People. So they arrested him and then nailed him up on a cross until he died.
Yep, that was a pretty awful thing to do. But Jesus forgave them and came back in a glowing body to show people that death isn't the end of existence. Then he rose up into what we call Heaven. |
|
Over the years since then, people have invented a lot of customs to celebrate the birthday of Jesus. So let me take you to our village, so you can learn about some of our festivities and customs. |
